Default Stem Wind Clock

I found this in some of the parts I am sorting through. Is this one like the one used in the accessorie mirrors with the clock for the Model A? I am abit unsure as the few I have seen up close did not have the flange. I know I have not seen them all so afew variations would not be a suprise. Thanks Rod

It is on page 57 in the Book “Those Wonderful UNAUTHORIZED ACCESSORIES for the Model a Ford”, Murrary Fahnestock. Purchase price was $2.50.

For the most part accessories don't interest me much so i have not purchased that book in 25+ years in the hobbie. With being currently unemployed I do not plan on buying it any time soon. Maybe some one will come along and answer the question instead of telling me what to buy. Thanks Rod

Sorry, I guess I did not totally answer your question.

The westclox you have is not the one that mounts on the mirror. The one you have typically was mounted on the front header with mounting screws.

Thank You. I was hoping it was one for the mirror, but one for the header would not be bad for the price. It will have to have a new winding gear and the inside needs a good cleaning. Thankfully its a Westclox so parts are not hard to find. Rod

Yes that's an original as would have been sold over the Ford parts counter.
They also came in a brushed nickel dial, but your's, the white dial, is my favorite.

PS....the Westclox "Tiny Tim" is a miniature desktop clock which shares the same guts. They show up on ebay occassionally and can be a good parts source.

Thanks for the info. I am glad it is an original. A friend of mine repairs watches and clocks and I showed it to him yesterday and he has the parts on hand to fix it. I also like the white face. Likely it will be one of the few accessories I use on the delivery. I like the fact it will be one of the few things that will be an easy restoration. Rod

Yesterday I had time to stop at my freinds house and we opened the clock and replaced the winding gear. The clock seems to run fine after winding. We also discovered the gear for setting the clock is completely stripped so we can not set the time. The gear is rivitted to the shaft in such a way that it can not be replaced with the tools he has to work with because there is basicly no room to file it off or to set a new rivit. I am guessing this was machine rivitted in a specialized machine with the shaft already in the case. Likely it would be easier to replace the case with one with a good gear. Does anyone know of a good case with an unrestorable clock movement, but a decent gear? Likely I will have to leave well enough alone for now as I know these are not easy to find and likely harder to find someone that has a machine that can remove the rivit, replace the gear and set a new rivit in that tight of a space.
