Default Remedy for rust-out on bead of 21" wheels

At some time in the past in one of the major magazines, there was an article on the remedy for preventing rust out on beads of 21 inch Model A wheels. Does anyone know what issue that article was in, or know the exact remedy suggested. I think it had something to do with drilling a hole somewhere in the bead to relieve the condensation that causes the rusting. Any help on this will be appreciated. Wayne

I finally found the article I was looking for. It was in the May-June 1996 issue of the Model A News. The article was written by Ronald Jawernycky, Farmington Hills, Michigan. To paraphrase from the article, " Drill a 1/16" hole on the inside bead of the wheel. Using a syringe, inject several ounces of "Extend" (a product from the Loctite Corporation) into the hole, and place a piece of tape covering the hole. Now rotate the wheel to insure that the liquid will distribute all along the inside of the bead. Let dry for a few days and reapply if necessary. Do the same on both sides of the wheel. Mr. Jawernycky states: "Make sure that the syringe is rinsed out with water and air dried" This is so the syringe can be reused.
On a side note, I found this article by using the "Model A Ford Technical Index" compiled by Mr. Tom Sieffert. This index includes most technical articles printed in the MARC and MAFCA national magazines. I hope this will help others. Wayne

I would think that if the rim had not rusted out in eighty years, it is not going to rust out, now that we keep them indoors.
It is more likely to rust, where the rim meets the rubber.

Only sure fire method is take tires off, get rid of the rust (bead blasting), get REALLY clean and powder coat. Should last forever on cars maintained like ours are. As most of us body man types have found, there is no long term solution for rust other than removal and proper top coating.

Seems there is never an easy way to do it right.

The 21 in wheels have a rolled bead. This will not allow any blasting on the rust inside the bead.

"Loctite® Extend Rust Neutralizer is a fast drying, milky white latex coating that is applied to rusted metal to stop rust, protect the surface and act as a primer for the finish coat. It converts rust to a neutral surface ready for painting, creating the ability to paint over rust."
