Default Carter Model B&B carburetor help

Folks,

I have a local person with a 1935 Dodge pickup. He needs the Carter Model B&B carburetor rebuilt. I can handle the rebuild, although I am not familiar with this carburetor. I have some questions about what I believe are missing parts. Is there anyone here that can steer me in the direction of someone I can speak with?

I'd like to help the guy out with the carburetor.

Thanks,
Seth

Seth,
Maybe try Carbco in south St. Louis. 314-544-3020. They’ve helped me with parts and rebuilds in the past. Good luck.

I don't have any specific help to offer, but I do have a suggestion. Do you know anyone with an old Motor's Manual that covers the era? If yes, it probably has a section on that carburetor.

Wolf Enterprises in San Antonio FL is another option. I sent a 1935 Holley Card to him on a Monday by UPS and got t back looking and running like new the next Monday. I paid for the 'service' on Ebay and sent it off. Grant Young is his name and is a great asset and fine re-builder if you asked me from my experience. Get a hold of Jon, CarbKing on Hamb, he would steer you straight. May want to find someone with some Carter tools. Some, if not all, Carters need a gauge to set the metering rod.I have a factory one for The Carter WO, but that is no help to you. Just a heads up, if you do need a metering rod gauge, Jon will only sell it with the kit. His shop is The Carburetor Shop, in Eldon, MS.

Mike's Carburetor lists several carb kits for the Carter BB,
www.carburetor-parts.com

There are also picturs of the carb and pictures of the parts on a parts list.

Also, I don't think the BB has metering rods, so no special tools should be needed.

The early B&B did not have the raised rib above the fuel bowl.

It has a strange accelerator pump. It does not seem to employ a leather cup. It has a big brass plunger with a seperate internal plunger with a needle inside the big brass plunger. It's seems odd to me.

There's an exploded view of the carb on Mike's Caruretor website that I listed above.
Pretty sure it agrees with what you have. Take a look.

I did go to that site and printed off some of the exploded views and the manual. I'll dig into this more later this week when I have time. Thanks for all the help on this!

After going back to the website, I saw that the exploded view was actually an updraft cast iron carb. I don't think that's what you friend's truck has, but I could be mistaken.

No it's a down draft. I did find good info on the website for the downdraft B&B.

Sal, you're the guy who I talked about the teapot carbureator I have? Are you interested in it? I think you asked about what model?

Yes, I remember about the teapot carb. I never made it to the Early V8 meet in Dearborn last summer. If you can see the part number stamped on the base that would be good. Most were stamped with a part number.
Or send a picture or two to [email protected]

Thanks, Sal
