Default 1938-1940 Convertible Club Coupe Top Boot Help Needed.

Both myself and Barn member Johnnie have the same vehicle, 1938 Convertible Club Coupes. We are in the process of having top boots made for them by a very skilled trim man near where Johnnie lives (London,Ontario) and are looking for some information on how they attach to our vehicles. We both have the same top frames and 4 snaps on the interior above rear passenger arm rests as well as the exposed snaps on the outside that are used when the top is up. Is there anything else?, my thought is that there should be extra material that is then tucked in above the back seat area (like a tongue?). Any photos of top boots from these years appreciated, on or off vehicles. 1940 might be very similar to what we have, Kube, you probably can give good advice and maybe pics of your 1940 Convertibles you have done over the years, also mine is being made without snaps installed per your posts over the years so I can install them where they best line up on my car. Thanks

Gary, I can't tell ya a thing about 38's. The '40 has male snaps on the top edge of the rear seat back rest.
I would (only) guess) that the '38 is similar. To simply "tuck" it in would not work when any wind is going over the car.
Even my '36 roadster has male snaps on the top edge of the back rest.

Thanks for the info, maybe snaps installed on the rear seat back rest is what's required. Your fast response is really appreciated as this project is moving along. Any other advice from Barners would be awesome, seems Johnnie and I have some misfits out here.

Think I found the answer I was looking for! Just had to get the top lowering book from the glove box. Pictured is the first and last steps which are key to our questions. Any fasteners on backside, yes! How is it held in place on the front middle, a strap of course! Now to make it all work, the easy part? Also looks like there is piping on the top of the boot top, any thoughts?

Feeling like a kid at Christmas a package (U.S. Customs opened and inspected) arrived today from London,Ontario addressed to myself. My daughter and I headed out to the garage and after a quick fit the results are VERY positive. Snaps will be installed shortly for the installation and I just wanted to give an enormous thanks to Barn member johnny for helping to facilitate this addition to both our cars. Also in addition to our boots his nearby trim man also made storage bags for them. The Fordbarn always amazes me with it's members willing to provide knowledge and help. London, Ontario is 449.1 miles from where I live and across international borders and we made it work. Thanks to everyone on this Forum.

Hi Gary,
I've been trying to find a boot for my '40, but not having any luck. Do you think your guy has the pattern where he can make another one? Can I ask what you had to pay? Feel free to PM me.
Thanks,
Nick

Pictures of boot and snaps on my'40. Note that there was another (earlier?) version that had four snaps instead of just one, located on the upper body sides.

My top boot was made in Canada using another Barn members car on site to use during the construction process. You should find someone local to do the same for your car. Was lucky to have another vehicle and someone capable to make them.
