Default '46 Ford Brake return spring

I purchased 4 new wheel cylinders and a new master cylinder for my
46 Ford coupe. I noticed when I was installing the master cylinder that there is a notch for a return spring on the brake pedal. There was no spring when I disassembled the master. Is a return pedal spring needed on my '46?
Thanks, Mike

Yes, you need a brake return spring. C&G has it.

Here's interesting required reading about this. Thank you Bruce Lancaster (RIP).

All early Ford brake systems need a return spring.
