Default Gas Valve Installation - thread sealant recommended?

I am going to install a new gas valve on the underside of the gas tank. Can I use teflon tape on the NPT threads to the tank and little dab of gasket eliminator on the swedged end of the valve? Your recommendation please?

Yellow teflon tape or pipe dope. It's a pipe thread. Permatex will make it tough the next time.

Yellow Teflon tape is fine as long as you get it on the treads only. Don't have it where it might get into the gas.

Teflon tape is a mechanics best friend....... for making money
If your the mechanic on your car, it's your worst enemy.
Liquid pipe sealer made for sealing gasoline !

Wouldn't it have to make contact with gas if it was needed to be used?

So far I've never had to use anything.

Permatex #3 doesn't harden. I've undone fitting where I used it years later and no problem.

In another life, I assembled many VW bug engines and the two block halves were sealed with Permatex #3 and, upon disasembly, we used ethanol to wash away the stuff. My concern with Permatex #3 is that it is soluble in ethanol so would the 10% ethanol fuel that we are currently being sold potentially undermine at the sealing effect?

Yellow Teflon tape is fine as long as it is on the threads and not up where it can get into the gas line. I have used it for many years on many applications with no problems.

Permatex Permashield is the ticket.

I haven't used permatex in years, I only remember the old stuff that got dead and hard, for gas I've been using Hilamar, spelling might be off on that, on the 32 to 34 trucks the hydro for the gas gauge is on the bottom of the gas tank, thats the only stuff that kept gas from leaking around the cap screws.

Read the labels, any pipe thread compound that says it's good for gas or diesel (usually in a list of about 40 things), will work fine. I several varieties on my shelf, most are green in color but not all.

I use a product called Gasoila. It is a paste and used in the petroleum industry. It works very well and I have never had a leak using it. Just google gasoila.
