Default stromberg 48

I had this stromberg sitting in my shop for a long time,
finally decided to get it rebuilt and put it on mt 46.
I made a deal with a guy I met at a car show that was there
selling rebuilt 94's, he said he could redo my stromberg,
when I got it back I could tell right away he didn't do it right,
so I sent it to someone else, got it back and put it on and the
car would barely run, surge and stall while accellerating, sent it
back to him again, just got it back today, put it on and it is
still doing the same, it idles fine, but surges and stalls while
driving, and at full throttle it boggs down, I really don't know
what to do now,any suggestions. I will soon have enough in this carb to have
bought a new 97 or 94. Which is another question, does anyone
have any experance with either of these and would recommend one or the other

What we are missing here is a statement telling us the car does run fine with a different carb?? If so, then perhaps something has been overlooked during the 48 rebuild and it will need to go to Uncle Max (or other expert) for correction and coloring.

As for the new Stromberg carbs, from England, I can say I have done extensive testing and thorough examinations and, as I said in my book, they are perfect in every way.

My center 48 was running crappy, probably due to my foolishness in using Permatex in the fuel lines trying to block off the front and rear carbs. I also had a dirty fuel filter issue. Anyway, I took the 48 off and removed the top and float. I also removed the jets and inspected the emulsion tubes. I considered replacing them but decided to spray some carb/injector cleaner through them and use my air hose to blow out the little plumbing holes that are flush with the top of the mid section. Anyway, some went "poof". I looked around fearing that I must have blown out a little spring or ball or something that belonged in there but could find nothing. Oh well, put it back together and bolted it back on with my reworked blocked off fuel lines to the front and rear and cleaned out fuel filter. Wow, the old truck is running great! I think there was some goop or crud in one of the tubes and I dislodged it. But it is running better than it ever has, so I'm wondering if the tubes were replaced when the carb was rebuilt in the first place. Coincidentally, I got that carb from a guy in Florida, now that I think about it.

The little boyscout voice in my head is telling me it's time for another deposit in the karma bank...
Send me the 48 and I'll return it with a clean bill of health - no charge, except shipping.

yes the car did run fine before putting on the stromberg and after
taking it off, the 94 does fine other than running a little rich,
which I have been told is probably the power valve, there is a
raw fuel smell out the exhaust, I have tried adjusting but didn't help.
I had this stromberg sitting in my shop and thought why not get it rebuilt
and try it, turned out not to be that simple. That is a great offer by
Uncle Max and I really appreciate it and will be glad to take him up
on it, but have offered to at least pay for any parts and shipping
and also time and labor if he will let me, he is supposed to
let me know.

makemc,
You just won the POWERBALL lottery. Uncle Max is the guy
who facilitated the introduction of the new 97's from the UK.

Now, we'll both be accused of collusion and price-fixing!
Glad we're not on Wall Street...
