Re: Anyone use a TomTom gps?
There is another thread on GPS charging. Last updated this morning.
Says that the regulator is in the plug. I use my phone and GPS on 6volts. |

Re: Anyone use a TomTom gps?
I use a Garmin navigator and have a small 12 volt battery 9Ah Rechargeable Sealed Lead Acid AGM Battery under the front seat. I connect to the battery with a Car Accessory female Cigarette Lighter Socket cord that lies on the seat. I connect to the battery using a Car Accessory male Cigarette Lighter plug. And I charge the battery using a Car Accessory male Cigarette Lighter plug.

I have a garmin and use a small cell phone/tablet charger. Works great. Rechargeable.

Re: Anyone use a TomTom gps?
I don’t know about Tom Toms but Germans run on 5 volts. The adapter will cut the volts down from 12 or 6 down to 5. Assuming you have a standard Model A with positive ground you have to be careful about the polarity. Reverse the wires + to - and - to +. If your adapter case has metal around it be careful because now it is hot and will short to ground. Just insulate it somehow with tape or something non conductive.

If I did this right you should have an attachment. I did this and it works great for my GPS/Cell Phone

Put the Waze app on your phone. This will do everything, speed, traffic, places of interest.

Re: Anyone use a TomTom gps?
Does Waze always work out of phone range? I can nearly always get a GPS signal , but using a phone app is uncertain in some patches because of areas of poor phone coverage

Re: Anyone use a TomTom gps?
I don't mean to hijack the thread but does anyone make one of these units that will jump/charge 6 volt and 12 volt cars?

Re: Anyone use a TomTom gps?
I'd like to know how people connect devices to the ignition switch to turn it on and off. The ignition switch only connects the coil to the points and does not provide a way of turning on or off anything. Jack

Re: Anyone use a TomTom gps?
Tap into the ignition switch existing wiring, or some venders offer an ignition switch with a spare wiring contact/connection.
