Model A Ford engine serial #RF5411
I have a Model AA ford that has been converted into a buck rake and I am trying to date the engine. The serial number is RF5411. I can find no information or data referencing anything close to the number. It appears to be a factory number that has the star both before and after the number. Can anyone help me identify the date of manufacture of this engine? It appears to be an industrial engine with a 7 inch lower crank pulley and an industrial type starter. m Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Model A Ford engine serial #RF5411
Ford did have a plant in Richmond, CA. I believe it closed in the 1950's. Ford did rebuild Model A engines in Richmond. Ford would grind off the original serial number and replace it with the "RF" number after the rebuild. "RF" indicated the Richmond Ford Plant.
The "RF" block I saw had hardened valve seats. |

Re: Model A Ford engine serial #RF5411
Out West, these RF- xxxx numbered blocks were often found in industrial applications such as railroad track "speeders", ski tow ropes, hay loaders, sawmills, etc. I have one that was painted Caterpillar Yellow and came out of a home made hay wagon. The block was Model A but the distributor, manifolds, and carburetor were Model B. The front axle and steering was from a Model-AA truck, the drivers seat was from an old tractor and of course there were no brakes. We joke about "farmer fixes" but those old farmers were pretty darn inventive.
