Default '39 221 to '40 239 swap

We have a 1939 Ford Deluxe with the original 221 CI in the car. We have a crack in the block and instead of trying to repair the 221, we found a 1940 Merc 239 bare block. From my research, the two blocks are basically the same.

My questions are, what engine parts are interchangeable? More importantly, which engine parts from the ford 221 will NOT fit on the 239 merc engine? Will the 1939 ford 3 speed transmission mount to the 1940 merc 239 engine without issues?

Any help and guidance is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Everything will interchange including transmission and all engine components with the exception of the pistons. The 239 has larger bore. Easy swap.

Ken, I appreciate the guidance. Now the fun begins I have the old Merc crank, I'm having it checked out to see how true (straight) it is. It might be easier to polish the merc crank and save the money for some aluminum heads.

Thanks,
Dave
