Thanks for the clarification. I updated my title.

ps....I just placed my order for this book but felt the shipping cost of $17.00 by UPS was rather high. I believe they could ship by USPS for a lot less. This is what I have done anything I ship since UPS has changed their procedures and raised their cost of shipping. Just sayin'

But Amazon has it on back order. My estimated delivery date is between September 9th & October 14th? They have a special going on for pre orders at the $20.50 price. I'm not in a hurry, so I took advantage of the savings with free shipping. Bill.

Also, check with Barnes & Noble, they have a free shipping policy. Be interesting to see what Mike Herman has to say compared to Vern Tardel's & Moke Bishops "How to Rebuild & modify Ford flathead V-8 engines"

That was a shame with the Tardel/Bishop book. Guess you need to check out the arrangement with a seller before allowing them selling rights. But I do understand their situation was not good!

Well not to get into the price of shipping, I've often thought of writing another book as well. I'd base the book on JWL's. The first 100 pages are dedicated to the stock version of the engine, with just external modifications. These were all Dyno proven. All I'd do would be to road test these engines for fuel economy. I think reliability and economy are of greater interest to most of the flathead owners.

I am not familiar with the problems with the seller of the Bishop/Tardel book?? I think it is a solid information book so what is the problem?

Thanks,
JWL

There was an earlier thread on it JWL. Turns out that they received little to nothing on the books sold by amazon. The only way they were getting any return on their investment was if the book was purchased directly from them. The book itself was great (I have a copy) it was just a poor arrangement somewhere along the line that allowed amazon to sell it without any (or again very little) payment to Tardel/Bishop.

I thought the Bishop/Tardel book was very good, with plenty of detail. I'm surprised it didn't do well.

Ron I have not heard of it not doing well, the problem was with the arrangement with amazon (a money thing) not the quality of the book or it's popularity. The issue (as I understood it) was that amazon was not paying royalties to them. I will try and find the original thread.

From the original Thread: http://fordbarn.com/forum/showthread...=Bishop+Tardel

1) I hope you enjoy the book as much as we did creating it. We wrote and illustrated the book for a super-friendly flat dollar figure rather than a royalty arrangement with the publisher. It made a lot of sense, given the limited audiance for a flathead Ford V-8 book. We were given to expect excellent wholesale rates that would permit us to market the book ourselves with decent profit; a neat idea for the folks who had created the book, right?

No, not right at all. Somehow Amazon got into the mix and began selling our book at discount rates even before the book was published! But no worries, enjoy the book, but when friends ask about it, suggest they go on line, or here, and buy a copy from the authors rather than Amazon.

2) Why would someone choose to pay reasonable money to one of the creators of a carefully constructed narrative for successfully working with arcane hot-rod hardware to make it strong and wonderful when they could save a few bucks buying the same book from a company that hasn't a clue about what the book is about but can get it to them in two days?

There are times when I ask myself what I'm doing with my life; this is one of those times.

3) I'm glad to see that the book is well received. It was an enjoyable albeit exhausting project.

Vern and I operate as individual agents; we don't share individual sales. I'm working on my own website, but in the meantime one can buy the book directly either with a check or money order for $36.00 . . .

Wow, another great book on Rebuilding the Ford Flathead V8 Engine. Just goes to show how popular these old Flatheads are.

I saw H&H announce the book on Facebook. Mike Herman says to ignore the shipping cost (which is high) Mike processes each sale himself and reduces the shipping to $6.50.
