The Pertronix Flame-thrower, the one that has worked for me for over 15 years.
Of course there are other options but all will probably give similar results.

you will need to to see what type it is [go to Pertronix site] and make sure you get the correct Ohms rated coil.

I would suggest using the Bosch Blue # 00012 coil, best and have never seen a bad one....

For the 12 volt Pertronix I would go with their flame thrower coil . Not only have I had thousands of trouble free miles using the stuff in my roadster i also used the conversion and coils to set a number of very fast records with my Flatheads on the salt flats. Gotta say something about their quality the way I see it.

Check in with Bubba at Bubba’s ignition - I use the Bosch blue coil with no internal ballast resistor, a Pertronix ignitor II., and I use the old Chrysler external ballast resistor. Bubba’s had done my crab distributor with the Pertronux Ignitor II and I kept burning up coils. With a ballast resistor in place I’ve had no trouble since. There have been many others with this same problem and using the ballast resistor solves the problem.

It´s a bit funny about chasing after the absolutely maxed out coil you can find...
The coil that is just enough to fire you engine and then a bit of reserve is best...anything above that just puts more load on your generator...making the vehicle burn more gas and go slower...lol

I used the one pertronix recommended as my concern was to not overload their unit. I'm running a stock motor so no big deal about needing a huge spark.

I have used the regular Pertronix Flamethrower with no problems for four years. Per their recommendation, use the 40,000 volt one; definitely not the 50,000 volt version, as it may crossfire.

I live by the rule.. "Don't Let The Directions On The Can, Outsmart You".. I have used Petronix ignitions on several V8's and a few 6 cyln, 6v & 12v during the past twenty plus years, never had a problem. I use what Petronix recommends, not what the parts counterman suggests.

On the steer I use the standard Ignitor and the matching 40,000 volt coil. For the race car i use the Ignitor 2 and the 45,000 volt coil.

The answer to your question is yes Pertronix offers a 6 volt conversion for every type of Flathead Ford V-8 distributor they also offer both positive or negative ground option.

I dont suggest using a pertronixs coil on any ignition , (including the pertronixs)
and theres a good reason !!!
It is very easy to use the wrong coil on your system , not just pertronixz but others a well. Its a marketing issue and a "chevrolet mindset" the hot rodder in you makes you thing that more is better , so we might need a 60,000 volt coil for my hopped up flathead !!!
And the companys tech support dont help by making you think you need the highest output you can get...I have installed a ton of pertronixs stuff over the years and put one in a 409 Chevrolet rebuild today, but just looking at their catalog you can see where you could get steered the wrong way!! In their latest catalog they offer 6 different coils , in two colors . The flamethrower and the flamethrower 2 and 3.......
Looking at the chart we see the output of 28,000 . 40,000 and 45,000 volts and the working resistance of each.........
The flathead engine on a good day wide open throttle should not ever need 45,000 volts and for most (95% ) 28,000 is just fine. The increased resistance allows the module to run better and last a long time.!!!!

Now I'm really confused.
Maybe I'l just paint my 40,000 volt Pertonix blue and it will be OK for another 10 years?

I've seen Pertronix fail more than once, so i say stick with points & cond. . If & i mean if it fails, you can fix it on the road....sorry, just my $.02 worth. mike

Really? Had a Mallory Unilite fail on the road and fixed it on the road by installing a spare Pertronix equipped distributor, was simpler than installing points or condenser.
