Default No Spark

This week I changed out my steering gearbox to the Ford F-100 truck gearbox. Went to start car and now no spark. I'm sure the gearbox change had nothing to do with the no spark issue. Just wanted tell what has been done to car recently. Prior to steering change it has not run in a couple of years. Got a new battery, gas is fresh, no trash in tank. Went to start and no spark at the plugs. I have 12 volts on both sides of amp meter, no voltage at switch ( I am using a keyed on/off switch not a pop-out). No voltage to either side of coil. All lights are working.

What am I missing??
Thanks for the help
Todd

You need power at both posts in the terminal box. Easy to track down. Check you fuse.
If you have power at ammeter, you must have it into and out of the term box.

Forgot to mention that earlier. Fuse is good and I have 12 volts in and out of terminal box.
Also I am using an FS distributor. No points.

Things about Electronic (FSI) Ignitions

1. If you leave the key ON for 30 seconds without engine running, the module will burn up.

2. The installation REQUIRES a continuous ground wire to be run back to the battery post - no "short cuts".

3. Reversing polarity of battery will burn out either a 6 or 12 volt module.

4. Hooking 12 volts to a 6 volt module will burn it out.

5 If engine is running and you remove a wire from a spark plug AND the spark inside the distributor happens to jump to the module it can be burned up.

Do you have or can you borrow a known good mechanical distributor? They are easier to trouble shoot.

with electronic ignitions, they are wired different than stock point systems, this is for both 12V and 6V. As your is 12V, the switch should connect directly to the battery, the other side connects to the + side of the coil with the red wire from the module. With ign switch off, one side should have 12V the other side 0v, with switch on you should have 12 volts on both sides of the ign switch. There should be a fuse, between the battery post and the switch, check it if you don't have power to the ign switch. The - side of the coil has the black wire from the module connected to it. The yellow wire from the distributor should be connected to a good ground.
Like Benson says above, if you leave the ign on without starting the car you can burn up the module.
It the car still work start your only choice is put a stock point style distributor in (and re do the wiring) or install another module.
I suggest getting another module.
Good Luck

As Herb stated "There should be a fuse, between the battery post and the switch, check it if you don't have power to the ign switch."

Herein lies the problem. Somehow or another the fuse was removed and not put back in place. So no power to switch. Installed fuse and she fired right up.

I love the simple fixes.

I’m glad you found it. Sometimes, the simple things are tough to find.

A while back, I had the distributor apart and reassembled without the rotor. From outward appearances, everything seemed in place, but no spark. Duh.......
