Re: How about some engine pictures!
This a 52 8BA I took apart this morning. It had been stored for years with good protection for mice invasion. We plugged up everything except the road draft tube, they found it, and thought it was a hi-way to the inside. The little devils built two nests, one in the oil pan and another in the valley. Needless to say the valves were a BIG challenge, but I finally succeeded. Block looks real nice, never been bored! I feel like primitive Pete with all the hammering.

Re: How about some engine pictures!
Walt: The truck engine is a 254. Can't say for sure but I'd guess the head would fit-the only difference between the 254 and the 226 is the bore. The 223 is listed at 3.3"; the 254 is 3.5. (Wonder why the inline 6 engines and the y-blocks are dimensioned in decimals and everything else is in fractions?). Can't imagine Ford casting a different block or changing the head bolt pattern for something like that.

Re: How about some engine pictures!
This Knudsen head is actually for a "G" series 226. The back of the "G" head is shaped differently than an "H' series. "G" engine is flat at the back and the "H" has a bump-out. The head would fit the "M" 254 six which is the same block as the "H" series.

Re: How about some engine pictures!
Hmmm? I thought I posted this a couple of days ago.
The attached pic shows the 59AB in my '36 Ford, of course this was before everything had to be polished billet. Chrome air cleaner bonnets were not very practical in Eastern Idaho, to many dirt/gravel roads, a pair of oil baths worked better. The oil baths also made the engine quieter. The setup shown in the picture has been working for 56 years so I just keep doing my maintenance on a true "old school" car.

Re: How about some engine pictures!
Attached are a couple of pic's showing a '48 MG-TC with a '40 Ford V8 60 eng. The car is owned by a friend of mine, he bought the car new, raced it for several years and could not keep the MG eng together so he re-powered it with V8 60. My friend said he used a '40 Ford trk V8 60 because the bell housing was the same size a the 85 hp's..
A very tidy installation...........

Re: How about some engine pictures!
Here is my 59AB, ready to be installed in my '36 sedan, which is currently in the paintshop. Note the side mount on the engine stand. Those folks who mount a complete flathead engine by the bellhouse bolts are asking for a ruined block.

Re: How about some engine pictures!
After seeing Bills falthead in an MG; I thought I would show you a Flathaed pick-up AND an MG. Both on the road now. The MG is just like the one I bought in 1960 and I bought the PU in 1957. I know it's a bit off the engine thread. Byron.

Re: How about some engine pictures!
Here is my strong sleeper. Nothing fancy, installed New engine in May, 2010
Here is more or less all the data I have on the motor: It is (24 stud) motor, 263 Cubic inch displ, Iskederian 77B camshaft (new), Totally balanced motor including the clutch assembly, 3 3/16 bore with new Mercury aluminum pistons, 4 1/8 throw (Mercury crank stroked an additional 1/8 inch, 21A rods with 2" journals on the crank and new bearings, new main bearings, adjustable (Johnson) lifters, rebuilt distributor, Lincoln valve springs with the lash set at .014", and new cam bearings). New life for the old truck. Just got the gears in the rear end swapped from 4:11 to 3:54s. Great for the highway now. I have more photos and history on the truck in my album. I really like looking through these pictures. Not only is it cool to see these engines, but it helps with referencing parts on my dad's engine as well. I definitely need to locate an oil filter for my dad's.

Here's my 59A block with 8RT heads and a Merc crank in my '35 woodie. Runs real well after 7 years and 6,500 mile of mostly summer driving.

Re: How about some engine pictures!
OMG!!! All these Hot Rodded Flathead engines are corrupting my purist early Ford V8 thinking. NOT!! I love them!! But I do hope that one self appointed police man here does not complain to management. LOL
So anyway folks, here's my slightly built-up 284ci, 59a engine that will go in my '35 tudor FB sedan traditional hot rod project.

There be some really nice engines in this thread - some real monsters too!
Here's my two albeit older pics .... even in a parade I'm being chased by the cops! Actually it was taken by a camerman up in a boom while in the William and Mary Homecoming Parade ... Last edited by TomT/Williamsburg; 03-20-2014 at 09:24 AM. |
