Anyone Following the Barrett Jackson Auction?

I just record it all on the Hopper, then go through it on fast forward to what I want to see. You can do 8 hours in 20 minutes. I set the Hopper to just 'Hopp" over all anything that has a "bowtie" on it.

I was advised that the Driving Miss Daisy 49 Hudson Commodore went for 60K . I knew the original owner Herb Bell. He passed a few years ago and the family attempted to get 45K. It sold for 25K at last year Auburn. Back in 91 it was absolutely stunning. But it kinda sat and deteriorated maybe a weak #2 more a #3. I feel it sold at BJ for twice the price. The Greatest Show On Earth.

Question for those in the know- What is it with all the people just standing on the stage? Do people get tired of sitting in the seats and just go stand on stage? Are they special VIPs or something?? Seems like an awful lot of people in street clothes just loitering on both sides of the auctioneer's stand for no apparent reason.

If you are a registered bidder you are allowed on stage to inspect the car you are bidding on. Most of the people you see are like power parkers at car shows. They are on cell phones calling everybody they know to "look at me, I'm on TV". Every year the Barrett Jackson people say they are going to crack down on this but they don't.

1) You need to be a registered bidder to go up there
2) Some, but not many are people that want to bid on that particular item being auctioned.
3) The majority are people up there suffer from little man syndrome and feel they need to been seen on TV drinking a mixed alcoholic beverage in a plastic cup!!
4) The serious players are in the front few rows or up in the sky boxes. But the REAL BUYERS are at the other auctions in Scotdale this week such as RM.

Nice to see some of the truly Classic antique cars rolling thru tonite,, the 1932 Chrysler Imperial, 1931 Marmon, early 30's Pierce Arrows.

I mean, just how many rodded and modded Camaros-Corvettes-Mustangs can you take? They get pretty old...........

Found the auction on the National Geographic channel of all places. Got to see the 1930's Classics roll through, nice to see them making a comeback. It just doesn't seam to be the same auction as in years past. It was IMPOSSABLE to sign up with the Haggerty Fantasy Bid compition this year, something I enjoyed playing in years past. Overpriced or not there wasn't anything that rolled across the stage that I would have wanted, except for the Talbot Coupe. Bob

I just hate that when a unusual car comes across the block they cut away and talk about something else, but when a mustang, camaro, 57 chevy, impala or firebird is up, they are all over it. I sold my 1970 Barracuda for $6500 in 2003 a year later after Barrett Jackson started airing you couldn't buy a rusted out parts car for that. Ruined the collector car market for the average guy.

They have turned out to be a muscle and custom sale 85%. Very few stock ones. I went there last year it is off my bucket list now.

I have always enjoyed it in the past and signing up for fantasy bidding in years past,not this year. I could only record it to keep up as it changed channels two or three times in one day,at least on Direct TV. As someone else posted I fast forward past Camaros and Corvettes to see something I liked. I did see one Corvette that I could not believe ,supposedly a 63 split window that George Barris cut the center out of and made an abortion out of a classic. Looks like he wanted to ramble on about it but they kept him off the auction stand. This year very boring,ugly Plymouth concept car,guess I will have to wait and watch Mecum's next and see my favorite car that has been through last 3-4 auctions unsold a 37 red cabriolet,Mecum must own it.

I noticed too that they cut Chuck Barris short Sat. nite. And how many goofy Batmobiles are there out there anyway Alice Cooper came out late,,,,even when these celebrities offer up a signed guitar or let you play golf with them, doesn't seem to influence the bdding nobody really cares.

Someone on Fordbarn ought to build a Model A Batmobile then maybe we'd at least see a Model A. And yes thank goodness for fast forward on the DVR,,,,I was burning it up yesterday as 95% of the stuff at this sale doesn't interest me in the least.......

Why do they remove the car from the stage immediately after the bidding starts? So, while the bidding is going on, there is NO car at all on the stage? Shouldn't they leave the car currently under bid on the stage for bidders to see?

And don't even get me started on the way they keep cutting away from the bidding to a couple guys tallking to each other doing a "show".

Oh wait a minute... Have to go... They just pulled up a Mustang for bid! We all know how rare it is to see a Mustang on the Barrett-Jackson auction block this weekend... [/sarcasm]
