Firewall Stamping
While doing an engine swap in a ’30 Sport Coupe we noticed a curious feature on the firewall. There is a stamping on the [USA] passenger’s side of the firewall directly under the choke rod. It seems to be designed to accommodate a right-hand drive installation of the steering column. If our conjecture is correct, this car was manufactured with the option for export to countries that drive on the left side of the road. Has anyone seen this option? Do right-hand drive Model A’s have a similar blank stamping on the other side of the firewall?

Re: Firewall Stamping
My early '31 RDPU (probably assembled in Long Beach) has the same raised area. I never paid attention but assumed they all did.

Re: Firewall Stamping
FWIW, my late 31' Firewall has that stamp as well (A NORFOLK, VA Assembly plant car).

Re: Firewall Stamping
as far as I know all 30-31 firewalls were stamped that way. I have not seen one that does not have it. even some frame were drilled for the steering box on both sides.

Re: Firewall Stamping
Interesting, my '31 town sedan has the same thing.
Never notice it when I repainted the firewall.
