Default 1938 Ford Sedan Delivery

Hi All,

I recently acquired this 1938(according to dashboard) Ford Sedan Delivery. It's missing quite a lot of parts, but fortunately "most" of the Sedan Delivery parts are there.
It's been laying in the nearby Forest since about early 1960s and is quite rough.

Now, my question, How many of these were manufactured? This had the 60HP V8, since all of the Standard Fords delivered to Finland had a 60HP Engine.

Is the frame/doors/front sheetmetal same as in 1938 Ford Standard Fordor?
Are the rear fenders similar to 1936 car rear fenders?

Thank you!
Mika in Finland.

Nice find Mica. According to the Production Figures printed in "The V-8 Album" produced by the Early Ford V8 Club of America in 1985, there were 3973 Deluxe Sedan Deliveries and only 13 Standard Sedan Deliveries. That last figure seems very low?

I think (if memory serves me right) the rear fenders for the Sedan Delivery were the same ones as on the station wagons??

In 1938 both the standard and deluxe versions of the Sedan Delivery used the standard passenger car front sheet metal. Thus, there were no 38 (or 39) Sedan Deliveries with the look of the Deluxe passenger cars. All of the front sheet metal on the delivery is the same as the passenger car. The front doors are the same as a Fordoor. The rear fenders are 35-39 Sedan Delivery only and are different than the Wagon. I think the closest passenger car rear fender is the 35 sedan. It will have a fuller look to it, They almost look better than the Delivery fender.

There is an ad on the Swap Meet for a rear fender for a 38' Sedan Delivery.

Thanks, but It doesn't look like one. Looks like a passenger car fender, with gas filler tube hole missing...

Thumbs down Re: 1938 Ford Sedan Delivery

Is this the one you are referring to? If so, this guy needs some "enlightening"

Mica, The Following was taken from the book "The Early Ford V8 as Henry Built it" by Edward P Francis and George DeAngelis.
Here is the straight scoop on 35 to 38 rear fenders on Station Wagons and Sedan Deliveries.
1935 thru 1937 Station Wagons (790) used the same 1935 rears (48-16306/7) changing in 1938.
1935 thru 1937 Sedan Deliveries (780) used 1935 Rears (48-16302/3) but these rears were different from Station Wagon rears.
1938 Sedan Deliveries used a 1935 right rear fender and a new 1938 left rear fender.
This information was taken from the 1935, 1936, 1937 and 1938 Chassis books, not the Green Bible”.
Hope that this helps.

The Francis/DeAngelis book gives the production figures for 38 Standard Sedan Deliveries as 2407 with 85 hp and 1120 with the 60 hp and for the Deluxe as 22 for the 85 hp and 6 for the 60 hp.

Thank you guys for the replies. How you can tell the difference between 1938 Standard and Deluxe Sedan Deliveries? Is there a book which tells the inner dimensions of the body to make sure its in correct shape(cross references?)

The Deluxe package included a chrome plated rear view mirror, windshield frame and wipers. Wheels on Deluxe deliveries were body color rather than black and had Deluxe hubcaps. Options were the V8 60, a passenger seat along with the choice of mohair seat covering and a unique offering was hand lettering with the customer's message on the advertising panel of the body.

One wiper may be correct, I found the information in Lorin Sorensen's "The Commercial Fords" and there is no front view of a '38 or '39 to verify the accuracy.
