I would not be surprised if V8coupman and MRTEXAS got water at their homes, both locations had evacuations. Neither of them have been on the FB since the storm hit, hope that is not a bad sign. This storm was crazy, where I live usually get's the worst of the storms and we didn't get water in our house. Car was high and dry. Al

I have been involved in Tornado disaster relief and was very impressed with the Salvation Army!

I've been thinking about V8COOPMAN, too, and noticing he had a post late last week. This was before Lake Houston got the additional rain. Hope all is well with all our Texas Barners!!!

The Coopman is OK, and we really appreciate the folks thinking about us damp Texans. Our place is right on Lake Houston, and the lake did rise dramatically, although it did start receding overnight. Our property is situated with a high and dry ridge that the house sits on with the rear lawn making a long, gradual slope down to the bulkhead and water. The water came-up into the yard for sure, to a level about 12 feet or so higher than normal. This is about two feet higher than our highest previous level in 1994. The water would need to have risen about another 7-8 feet to get the house. We only lost power twice for a total of about three hours throughout the storm. I figure we had between 35 and 40 inches of rain where we are. Very fortunate, for sure! DD

I am a member of a United Methodist church and have been for many years. Whenever a disaster like Harvey comes around, we can make a donation through UMCOR, the church uses their regular finances to get 100% of all donations to the relief effort. If you want to donate you can do it here;

MRTEXAS mentioned that he was about five miles from Sienna Plantation, an area southwest of Houston that did flood quite heavily, although I guess you could say that just about EVERY area within at least 100 miles of here flooded HEAVILY. An encouraging sign is that MRTEXAS checked-in on the 'Barn last night at 7:20 or so. Hoping all is well for him and his..........! DD

I was curious as to Howell's Sheet Metal & the Harvey flood plain ,I know they are a short distance from the Neches river & rather large lake or flood control basin, hoping they are okay, plenty of suffering going for our friends to our south.

What about Howells sheet metal. They are just north east of the city.
I have tried to contact them several times this week and no response.

Vic, I have bought some stuff from Howells sheet metal several years back for my 29 roadster. the panels were junk, and not worth the cost to send them back. I would not buy anything from them again. They may make some good stuff, but I never got any of it.

Sienna Plantation evacuated because they thought the brazos river would top the levee. Doesn't look like it will now. Our home is at 65 feet elevation while some in the neighborhood at 55 feet. Didn't even lose power but there was mandatory evac. We drove 400 miles to get 125 miles from home. Schools delayed start until Sept 11. We are near Beaumont high and dry but the town is an island with all roads in/out flooded and some bridges washed away. We had 4 feet of rain. Beaumont city water out for at least a week. Waters slowly going down. Some people going by boat to get gasoline. All stations closed until roads opened up. Many homes flooded that have never seen water. Well we are flooded in but not delaying getting home as Houston is also flooded in and will have to wait for the brazos river to recede.

We had nearly a whole year's worth of rain in 3 days!

Probably not flooded but could be. Beaumont put in flood retention ponds and flooding is much reduced.

Doesn't matter about the vintage cars. They have survived worse and it will give pleasure to someone else to give them life again.

As opposed to those 10 year old grocery getters worth under $1000 which provided transportation to take the kids to school and get groceries. That's a problem as they are real toast.

The late SRV is one of my favourite artists and this is one of his best songs in my opinion. It's so poignant now, I almost feel guilty liking it. Must be hard for those folks afflicted by this cruel force of nature.
