Default Radiator Mount

Is this the correct mounting assembly? The picture shown is how I found it. The radiator tab is on top of the rubber pad. The bolt is through the rear hole on one side and the front hole on the other. The car is a '37. I am in the process of installing an 8BA and the radiator position is critical to fitting a fan.

I have both the '34 and the '37 books. Both books show how the radiators are mounted. Strangely, the '34 springs are shown mounted above the frame and the '37 springs are mounted under it. I found this out after mounting my '37 radiator with the springs on top of the frame but haven't gotten around to correcting this.

Something is amiss. Regardless of whether the head of the bolt is up or down, they should pass through the same hole in both front cross member gussets, not forward in one and back in the other (unless your gussets aren't a matching pair as they should be).

I don't know if it applies to your 37 but when I installed an 8BA in my 40 there were two sets of mounting holes in the frame rail so I could move the radiator a tad forward. I used washers for height adjustment and did not use the OEM bolt/spring set up,. Just a rubber pad for the radiator. That was 50 years ago and it still works with no vibration cracks. The radiator holds 22 qts. Good luck with your engine swap.

OK, thanks. I will use front holes with radiator on top of the rubber pad on the frame mount secured by the springs and bolt.

Normally the front holes were only used on trucks and commercial units.

I believe the two frame holes in 1937-1940 were for either the 85 hp radiator or the 60 hp radiator mounting.

Can you add further information? I know for a fact that in 1935 there was only one hole and that in 1936 they were used as I stated previously. For 1937-40 is the engine option the only factor as far as which holes were used - i.e. cars and trucks both used the same holes if they had the same engines?
