How do you install Bendix
How do you install the new style bendix on the 29-31 starter? Anyone have a picture of the process. I converted to 12 Volt and a week later sheared the Bendix bolt on the old style.

Re: How do you install Bendix
They sell a tool (sold separately) of course. I haven't put one on yet, but assume that once I see the tool and Bendix I will be able to figure it out. I don't think you have to have the tool, but they offer it and so I put it in stock. I've had one club member use the new style and had trouble with it in just a short time. I think I will stick with the standard Bendix. The truck cam with 12 volt and I've already had to put a Bendix on it and haven't had any trouble with the stock Bendix since. Just my thoughts

Re: How do you install Bendix
The original style bendix requires no installation tool; the modern bendix does. I have heard reviews that the modern ones like to stick. I don't know how much of a problem this is but I think barely anybody in our club runs a modern style.

Re: How do you install Bendix
The guy who rebuilds starters near me uses the old style and said they used the same one for years and it turns out that the one he put on mine was from a tractor(identical to my original when I compared), don't remember which one but I think it may have been a Ford. Anyway it seems they had it figured out when they made the old design at least for our type of application. Probably lots of good used ones still around.
