I have a beautifully polished 1931 grille shell that I got in a larger purchase this summer. The shell was a pristine original with no signs that any metal work needed to be done before it was polished. Both upper and lower inserts are in place and will just need some sanding to remove bits of original paint and scuff the surface for good paint adhesion. Original stainless 31 emblem still in place and has been polished to the same high quality as the shell. Same for original crank hole cover. If you're looking for perfection in a 31 shell, this is it.
