Default flat head motor id

i know google is my friend also the archives but still have a problem iding this flatty. engine has the cast bell housing but the fuel pump rod is the 10 ich long one which is for a 49 -53 right? i thought 48 was last year for the cast bell housing. no markings on the housing just on right rear of block is something than L 431 has eab heads on it. can someone help here? thanks

Please post a picture of the engine. Not all engines meet the rules of normal USA production blocks. If you get an engine made in another part of the world, things can get very odd for the uninitiated. It sounds like you may have a French V8, or some other non-USA engine.

Bruce Lancaster can probably answer that question better tham I. However, Ford did allot of crazy things in 1948/9. In an effort to keep production going during the change over. No telling what they did or why.

pulled the intake found these letters and numbers on rear ledge inside 1ba -w does that help any thanks

Hmmm ...1BA is a 1951 designation, so it would seem the engine is at least that new.
Go out and stop the next teenager you see...those guys know how to make pictures and put them here!

found numbers on the mounting ledge for the intake today under a lot of paint. 3 1 P than a 3 in a box.does that help?

I think if you look closely, you'll find that that bellhousing is actually a bolted on item. As said, 1BA notes a 1951 engine.
