51 merc dual master conversion
need help here guys. I want to hear from guys who have done a dual master cyl conversion on their 49- 51 mercs. mainly did you use a kit and was it simple. or did you go with something that bolted straight to the same place as the old cyl and used the stock linkage. I would like to put it in the same place as stock and use the same linkage and have heard it can be done I don't want a booster. all info will be greatly appreciated. thanks

Re: 51 merc dual master conversion
A simple right angle bracket from ECI brakes (don't know if they still carry them) and a mid to late 60's GM drum/drum master with built in residual valves.

As I said they may not have them any more. Call them to see if they still make them. It is nothing more than a right angle adapter that bolts into the original bolt holes on the side of the frame and provides a mounting surface for the dual master. If they don't have it try swap forum it may still be available see here--- https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123262

Re: 51 merc dual master conversion
Don't know what Bob used but I used one for a 1966 Cad. Fleetwood from Napa PN p36373.
It puts the tube fittings on the side they need to be. No heat shield required. See here------ http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Brake-Master-Cylinder-Remfd/_/R-NMBP36373_0358906885

Re: 51 merc dual master conversion
oldsman41... I used 77 Mustang master cyl. Raybestos # mc36440. It is for a manual disk/drum system. The fittings are on the opposite side which is what I wanted. As far as the heat shield it isn't nessesary but with the stock 351 Windsor exhaust manifolds I thought it was a good idea. The master cyl. stays nice and cool. Probably not necessary with a flat head. Call Fatman for info.$65.00
