Default '37 brake pedal adjustment

I'm wondering how to adjust the brake pedal on my car. The brakes work fine, but I have to push the pedal quite far down to get the brakes to work. The brakes are still the original mechanical type, and have been redone. I'm still fairly new at this, and don't know if this amount of travel in the pedal is normal.

There are adjustments in the components. There is a cleves adjustment in the rod attached to the pedal.

The 1937/38 Ford V8 Engine & Chassis Shop Manual available in reprint has the procedure for adjusting the final type of mechanical brakes that ford made. The service bulletins for these years also have a lot of information about them.

This is a link to a thread on the HAMB about adjustments. It's kind of drawn out but there is some good information there.
