My Horn button does the same to, I find that if i put my palm flat on the button and push down and turn my hand back and forth like a windshield wiper, it will work for a couple months . But i do need to remove it and get it good and clean.

I just filled all the cracks in my steering wheel and painted it flat black, The steel dish (in the center where the nut goes) was cruddy and is now painted. Is it necessary to restore this to bare metal for a good horn ground ? I have a new horn button and repair wire on order.

Not really - the horn wire runs through the horn rod and only touches anything at the light switch. Horn works by grounding it out.

The button with wire attached makes contact at its edges with a grounded metal ring which must have a clean surface. The contact at the lighting switch is a wiper to maintain horn connection while turning.

could it be possible I have grease build up or crud my lightning switch. If I cleaned it and put on contact spray. Do you think that would work. Hate to pull everything apart if I don't have to
