On the USPS I ordered some stuff for shipping to the UK from Bert's USPS managed to destroy the box on the US leg of the journey. Luckily for me Bert's packaged things inside the box really well (as always) and Royal Mail taped the box to stop any losses.

This has gotta be a pain for the parts suppliers. Two orders that I got last year from Bert's came mangled from USPS with a damaged part in each box. Bert's was REAL quick to make it right. They are one of the very best! And, they had packed the orders REAL well I guess the post office decided to use those packages as a test to see if they would hold up.

I think one of these TV investigative news reporters need to travel (undercover) along with the box just to see how so many packages get so damaged. I've had some poorly packaged parts, but even the best packaged parts are still arriving with the boxes torn open and often with parts missing or damaged. I just can't imagine how so much damage happens to the boxes.
Of course all my junk mail arrives in pristine condition.

Here is a link to the Global Shipping program. One package I shipped using it was lost once it made it overseas. Ebay covered the loss with nothing lost out of my pocket. Rod

A few years ago I had a Model A rear spring shipped by FedEx from LA to NC. It had several labels taped directly to the spring. The spring made it to a FedEx point somewhere between here and there and then went off the radar. They never did find it.
FedEx refunded the insured amount to the seller who was a man of integrity, and he refunded my purchase price.
Somewhere in the corner of a FedEx depot sits a very nice original Model A rear spring.

There was a TV report on a current affairs program here recently where a parcel delivery man was filmed throwing parcels out of the back of his truck onto the ground. The footage was clear enough to identify the guy and the company. After it was aired, they took action and sacked the fool even though they had done nothing about damaged goods in the past.
If USPS is embarrassed this way a few times (and the other companies), maybe they will smarten up their footwork. IMHO, its up to you guys!

Do you really think they read this or care ? There are so many satisfied customers that a few discontents mean nothing. Their answer would be that if you don't like it take your business somewhere else. Do you honestly think this post has ebarrassed them ? Not in the least ! Wayne

The USPS is a dinosaur and the asteroid has hit. There is NOBODY that has anything to do with them that has any idea on how to run a business. Worse then that, it is my belief that the powers to be in the government want it closed down. It is no longer the cash cow it once was and they cannot monitor what is in the mail like they can with every other type of communication. I just hope it lasts long enough for me to retire.

Our main Post Office is just across the street from both UPS and FedEx terminals. You see their trams going back and forth all the time.

I returned a Jaguar mirror to the States. Customs said 1,9 kgm. Upon arrival the package weighed 0,1 kgms. It was refused and returned to Holland. Empty

What is it with USPS ? Crazy ?

I will say it again if you are selling or buying internationally on ebay you are a fool not to use the Global Assistance Program. It protects you and the seller from the lack of insurance due to the USPS policies. From the US you ship it to Erlanger, Ky. insured. From there it ebay handles it and is liable for loss or damage in its transit and delivery overseas. Rod

Again, two years after my last post to this thread, I have had no problems with USPS.

Incidentally, my brother in law took the injector pump from one of his tractors into the big city for repair. The repair depot shipped it back by Greyhound. It never made it to the end of a one hour journey. The replacement cost over $1,000. It took over a year for my brother in law to be compensated!

There are bound to be horror stories about every shipper. They handle millions/billions of transactions. We could start a thread with all the successful shipping activities, but it wouldn't be any more productive than this thread, ie, not at all.
