How much does a complete Fordomatic Medium case transmission weigh?
I bought a medium case transmission on eBay and am arranging shipping (costs more than the tranny). Does anyone know what the weight is without the bell housing? The seller estimated 100 lb. because “he could lift it (strapped to a cut down pallet) and he is old”.
Thanks |

Depending on how far it's going, and the trucking company involved, it could easily cost $250 or more. Up to 140# UPS will take it. Still not a cheap thing to ship.

Yes, but that doesn’t help me with how much it weighs. I need to tell the shipper the weight.

I have a '53 Fordomatic out but it doesn't have the rear extension housing on it. I am pretty sure your rear ext housing is aluminum and that part probably weighs less than 5#.
Mine is also not a medium case, it is a small case, but for the purpose of estimating weight maybe you could add 10#. I will try to put mine on the scale tomorrow. |

Less that a truck load freight is all over the place in price depending on the trucking firm. A shipping broker can get better prices. If you have a Fastenall company close by, they provide a LTL service for a decent rate as long as both parties have a Fastenall store near by. A person has to go to the local store to pick it up since they don't deliver.

I had an exhaust system for my 57 Fairlane shipped to me via Fastenall.

Re: How much does a complete Fordomatic Medium case transmission weigh?
Fastenal can be good or not so good depending on where you are shipping from and to. I've shipped items very reasonably and other times it was cheaper to use my FedEx account. They use third party shipping to fill their trucks. For a while they weren't shipping from CA and I thought all third party shipping was on hold but I could be wrong. Also, not all Fastenal locations have a forklift. If you do use them and the item needs a forklift make sure you verify that a forklift is available.

Maybe a little late with this information to be any help, but Medium case for a Thunderbird weighs 125 lb. Full size car would be a little more, probably less than 5 lbs difference.
