32 4cyl. Exhaust Gasket leak running rough
Hello, this is my first post, I have a 32 Model B with The 4cyl. I’m having trouble with a gasket leak or so I think. I changed out the warped old manifold and added my spare one with new gasket. After doing so the car will not run correctly... spits sputters, loses power at higher speed and sometimes can’t even get out of 2nd gear before she wants to die on me.. I’ve cleaned the carb and fuel pump and spark plugs. Don’t know what else to do... any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help. 😩😩😩😩

Well first thing I'd check is make sure you have good fuel flow from the tank, through the pump, etc. I'm thinking the pump could be bad, needing a rebuild. Could be a big vaccum leak on the intake but try the fuel stuff first. Also, check your points gap.

Have you put a straight edge across the intake and exhaust manifolds when they
are bolted together to make sure they are even?? Bob |

Or have them surfaced bolted together. I agree with Jim Brierly, if the only thing you changed was the manifold, start there. If it ran good before the manifold change I don't see a fuel pump suddenly going bad or the points going out of adjustment.

Re: 32 4cyl. Exhaust Gasket leak running rough
Does anyone even make a B exhaust manifold?

Re: 32 4cyl. Exhaust Gasket leak running rough
I don't think so................the A manifold exits straight down the B exits at an angle.

Re: 32 4cyl. Exhaust Gasket leak running rough
The first B engines were fitted with the angled manifold but sometime in the first year they switched back to the Model-A type and from that point forward Ford no longer fitted or supplied the angled manifold. No idea why they changed back but that is what happened.

Re: 32 4cyl. Exhaust Gasket leak running rough
Most original A & B manifolds are warped ! Though they often look perfect
Number 4 exhaust port drops down . which causes a leak and poor running You need to put the straight edge along the 4 manifold ports to see if it has dropped down Can you get the 4 Gland rings to line up with the manifold and block ? or are they missing I think leaving the gland rings out could contribute to the warping |

Re: 32 4cyl. Exhaust Gasket leak running rough
New to all this so here goes, are the gland rings in the block or the manifold?

Re: 32 4cyl. Exhaust Gasket leak running rough
There’s a groove in both the manifold and the block, the gland rings go between them. They’re supposed to give a better seal.

Re: 32 4cyl. Exhaust Gasket leak running rough
Gland rings got moved around over the years. I am sure that part of the purpose of the rings was to keep the manifold inline with the ports, rear droop.
