Re: Oil pan removal
The forward rope seal seems a little long as does the rear cork seal, the gaskets were ordered from Macs, do I need to trim these? I would think they would be cut to the car, engine model ordered.

Re: Oil pan removal
Who made your Gasket set? I'm an 8BA guy, but the Fel-Pro gasket sets that I use come with a guage and instructions on how to properly trim the rope seals. I believe some makers sell sets with the seals pre-cut. I'm with you; I'd rather fit them to the engine instead of using somebody else's guess.

Re: Oil pan removal
Are you aware that they do not cut flush with the block surface? They need to extend above the mating surface.

Re: Oil pan removal
I installed the forward rope seal untrimmed, after pressing the rear into its slot it looked good, I just hope the front rope seal compressed on each end enough to not create a leak, I got a mirror under there and it looked closed up. We will see, thanks for putting up with the dumb questions, I am glad I cleaned the pan, the pick up was pretty much hoovering over some nasty looking stuff.
