1948 Ford woodie chassis
What chassis is interchangeable with the one under the 1948 Ford Super Deluxe Station Wagon? Were the truck chassis the same?
I have just been playing around and doing a little research, thinking about building up another chassis so I can take the body off my car and just bolt it on the new chassis. Any ideas? |

Re: 1948 Ford woodie chassis
the convertible and woodie shared the same chassis, the "x" parts of the frame are of a heavier guage of metal (probaably not enough to matter) than the regular car frames, also there is an extra brace for the cowl-goes from frame under cowl to the x member framing. you can use a regular auto chassis but the vin# numbers will not be the same. truck chassis for those years 42-47 and later is of the ladder bar design with no x member

Re: 1948 Ford woodie chassis
Half-ton pickups had open driveline and duel leaf springs ....Front and rear....I had a 47 panel truck....It was nice with the open driveshaft and reg. u-joints ..Why you could blow a cluster gear out of the top loader Trans at 10:00am ,stop at the junkyard and get another on the way home...Pull it out, change it out,and have it all buttoned up by the time your Dad got home from work at 4:00pm......Don't ask me how I know.....
Like Allen said you'll want a "car" chassis...Carl
