Personally I don't think one can beat the traditional cellulose paint. Whereas modern 2-pack and clear coat lacquers may have a brilliant shine, they have no depth. Cellulose paint never actually dries and thus will invariably respond to a T-Cut and polish. The resulting finish is deep enough to "swim in". In the old days we'd use Original Simoniz polish in the yellow tin......took forever to polish a car but the result was satisfying.

Whatever; restore as you like it.

I don't have a problem with original fit and finish, except for areas of inadequate or missing paint . I think that however you finish the car, it deserves to be preserved so that it may be driven and enjoyed.

I used to use that old Simonize on my everyday car. It was a "bear" to apply, but it looked really good, when you finally finished.

Okay I've drunk the coolaid, I admit to that. The 'off the showroom fresh' vehicle is the one that raises my blood pressure. Usually that means a 33-36 that has never been touched. Over 75 years of dust, original interior, paint, running gear (even better is an original running gear is one that is gently modified to make it a real good running car, many thousands of miles), etc. Those are the ones I linger over. But... As I'm a volunteer judge at the V8 Concourse meets, and because because I'm a little younger, I like doing the undercarriage part of the judging sheet, so it's easy for me to see the too shiny bits. I've never seen a point deduction for a too nice car, but I've seen the cars, as well as seeing a few that were incorrect to the point of not being a legitimate Concourse vehicle. Very hard to fault a car that is over-done. Think of it this way; Forty years from now they will have to represent the cars as Henry produced them, even if their fuel tank is too nicely painted.

I enjoy the un-restored as well as the over-restored as long as they have a flathead in em.
