New water pump woes

The rebuild of my late Merc flathead engine is being held up by inability to get a proper new waterpumps. My new waterpumps obviously must be properly rebuilt for improved flow. My engine will have a single narrow Vee belt accommodating an alternator and likely more ,I'm not aware of.

Here's the rub, the pump rebuild house, who I trust, can't seem to get a proper pair of Merc pumps to work with which have the right wheel diameter, shaft offset, and belt dimensions. The last 3 orders he received were wrong - wheel dia, belt size, offset, etc.

In the chance someone here knows a better source of Mercury pumps than my guy, what say you?

The pumpbodies them self is only one style...then you have different pulleys.
If they are infact a rebuilder refitting a different pulley can´t be much of an issue?
If they try to mix and match an alternator into the mix my guess is the bracket has offset for a single belt pump setup...and mecury has one pump and fan connected...and generator to the other pump...so they need to fix the offset issue...

Perhaps I wasn't clear, I am looking for sources...houses that sell stock new pumps. Since new Mercury wp are rare I thot I'd ask here.

C'mon......most of us have squeezed more HP out of our flatheads and run or have run
stock pumps. A stock rad in good shape and a block that is clean internally will be
quite happy with stock pumps. Your source for an end to your issues is SKIP HANEY.
Skip advertises in the V8 times and is on this websites vendor list. If you send him
your pumps configured the way you want them ( pulley and spacing wise ) he'll do the rebuild with fancy smancey impellers.........end of story.

"A single narrow belt". I have never heard of a stock Mercury running such a setup. It looks like you are trying to come up with a unique combination. Yep, you're probably on your own on this.

I think your problem is the fact that in the original Merc configuration was with two belts used for the waterpumps. These were driven from different pulley locations on the engine with different ratio(diameter) pulleys supplying the input therefore requiring different size and spacing pulleys. To run the pumps with one belt will require robbing a pulley to match the desired alignment and asking Skip to use it during the rebuild.

I have done this conversion and can only caution about the loading of a single belt being limited.

Hi John, maybe a shot of the OEM pumps and some dimensions will help some?

We just stripped a '50 Merc for a potential build on a new job?

On a side note, if you look closely at the pulley on the drivers side you can see how much correction it took on the edge of the pulley to avoid any potential engine vibrations?

P.S. Here's a couple shots of the pumps as they were just removed. Both use "narrow" belts, each is a different diameter (Dr=4.750"/Pass=4.125), and they are offset. From the pump surface to the C/L of the pulleys measures 3.125" on the driver's side and 3.800" on the passenger side!
