Default standox paint

The body shops in my area are using Standox brand paint. Have any Barners used Standox and what are your opinions? I would also be interested in what colors may have been used. Thanks, Art

Do you know if they even offer authentic Model-A colors that match the Paint & Refinish Guide?

I don't think they list the Model A colors, but I do have the paint and refinish guide and would think they could match the colors. Is that how it is done or am I wrong? Art

Well, yes IF they have the proper tints. We don't know how extensive the paint line is thus the question from Brent.

Well, ...good question. There is another Europeon paint that I liked called Sikkens, however they did not have a method to accurately color match to Model-A colors. The depth of their single stage urethane, and the purity of their pigments was really awesome. I suspect the Standox is similar.

Sikkens was awesome paint. It was very high solids and very difficult to run. But they stopped making single stage

This is on on a web site, "Sikkens products – including undercoats, two component single stage urethanes, basecoats and clearcoats – help reduce application time and materials usage while giving you the best looking, most durable finish in the industry."

Sikkens products

Standox is a very good product. I owned and operated a body shop for 10 years in New Zealand using Standox. It's now owned by DuPont.

Any high volume body shop should be able to scan your color chip and reproduce your wanted color in their mixing system. This is extremely common in Virginia.

That is a true statement providing the paint mfg actually has method to scan that particular paint line. Just because DuPont owns the company does not mean there is a scanner compatible with the Standox line of toners.

''their mixing system'' is the key to my post, not Standox. I did not post to argue, just imparting some common knowledge in the car painting business. I imagine that a nail polish color could be reproduced, if scanned and put into virtually any line of paint, if the company has the formulas and tints in their system. Regardless of paint line, the tints MUST meet a standard or else no company could match another company's colors. A company without the ability to match paint colors as they arise is no good in the vehicle refinish business. Best of luck, art.

Based on my experience in autobody repair and refinishing over 45 years I never saw a paint any more durable and matched any better than Sikkens. NONE. The Dupont clears were pretty close.

Actually, DuPont no longer owns the Standox brand nor does it own the former DuPont brand of Automotive Finishes. The company is 'Axalta' owned by the Carlysle Group.
