Re: Clear distributor caps appear to be back
I bought 2 when Mike's had them. VERY useful for troubleshooting! I ended up giving both away, so the plan is to purchase several more.
Who gave this thread a 1 star rating vote? Will the 1-star voter please reveal himself/herself? |

Sold my original last year just before they were available from vendors. Made out well!

Re: Clear distributor caps appear to be back
I think I've learned more with my clear cap... I saw what a bad condenser does, saw what a bad/weak coil can do... it an awesome tool when you're on the road side.... get one watch it, get a feeling for your cars spark sizes at the body and any arcing at the points and you might be able to see issues road side easier... put it in, leave it in, less you're showing your car..

Re: Clear distributor caps appear to be back
I have never used (post star ratings) the star ratings and don't worry if posts have 1 star, 5 stars or no star at all. I read the posts that seem interesting. I to would be glad if the star rating was disposed of, even though I don't use them, as I see they add nothing. I can understand that purest would not what to use the clear caps for their car, but I can see that for temporary use in diagnosing electric problems, they could be quite helpful.

Re: Clear distributor caps appear to be back
Don't get miffed over the rating thing. I find it annoying and it seems there are afew that if it don't agree with their interest or view of the hobbie they use it to insult the person who posted or the subject matter. I seem to have someone that downgrades every post I start. I evidently have made an enemy or two on the forum and I can live with that as I am not the easiest person to get along with. It would be better if that function was disabled. Rod

Re: Clear distributor caps appear to be back
There's MILLIONS of cars out there, without CLEAR distributor caps & most of them run DANDY!
I'd rather spend my $$$$$'s on something REALLY FRIVOLOUS, (WINE, WOMEN, COUNTRY SONGS, A RED PHONE, A HAT WITH CHARACTER--FROM A YARD SALE, ETC.) Bill W. (The hat is for CAR SHOWS, them guys have the FINEST cars & the WORST hats & UNBELIEVABLE beards & the CUTEST chicks!!)

Re: Clear distributor caps appear to be back
Same as rating system with movies. How many times have you gone to a four star rated flick and it absolutely stunk. Then, you go to a one star rated movie and it is very good.

Re: Clear distributor caps appear to be back
Next should be a clear radiator and hoses to keep tabs on the cooling system!

Re: Clear distributor caps appear to be back
Actually a clear top hose could be very useful, and I tried without success to find one.
I just placed an order with Bert's, and the clear distributor cap is a couple months out yet. |

That's how the inventor of the COOLANT RECOVERY tank determined that air bubbles defeated he cooling system process! He was a mechanic for Navajo Truck Lines, in the Southwest. Remember the BLUE EYED INDIAN on the back, as they traveled the OLD ROUTE 66? Chief taught me about "DRAFTING" while following them! That wuz BEFORE NASCAR even discovered "DRAFTING"--LOL I once tiped a LOOOONG thing about him. After installing his tanks on their trucks, overheating was rarely a problem. Bill W.

Re: Clear distributor caps appear to be back
I have a clear cap that I ran for a while and noticed cracks coming in it. I took it off and replaced it with the old black one to save it for problem times.

Just splice a piece of clear plastic tubing into an old top hose. Bill W.

Re: Clear distributor caps appear to be back
Actually,I thought the same thing about the time when the clear red ignition wires were in style! I haven't thought a lot about it since then. But Home Depot sells some pretty big clear tubing, but I don't know how it would handle the heat, or overheat. Imagine if you had a thermostat in the upper hose and you could see if it was working or not.
