1940 trans question.
Put my spare trans together and have a question. Which is more important to have the spacer ring between the syncho sleave and the input shaft or the front bearing seating all the way to the snap ring. I checked to see if the rear bearing is seated and it is, but with the spacer in there the front bearing will stop at maybe a 1/16" until the snap ring rests on the case. Not my picture, it's off google.......but that's the spacer I'm talking about.

Re: 1940 trans question.
Do you have the short or long bearing in the rear of the front main drive gear?

Re: 1940 trans question.
As Ken mentioned, there are two different length roller bearings. The shorter version locates in the rear of the main drive gear, and a long and short version are used for the cluster gear on the counter shaft. You can see these roller bearings in the first picture.
Also, the spacer ring you mention should be checked for wear. The attached pictures show a worn sample vs a good sample.
