48 ford flathead v8 truck fuel pump stands
my 48 ford fuel pump stand is quite different than the one it calls for, my fuel pump bolts up to a 8BA-9416 stand but has a narrow opening at the bottom (see pic#1) while the one it supposebly calls for(pics3&4) isnt tall enough to clear the top of the head and cant accomendate my fuel pump except maybe without an inch of shims. my question???? will the slight opening (see pic#1) at the base cause me any problems if i use it this way?

Re: 48 ford flathead v8 truck fuel pump stands
Ford had two different fuel pumps in 1948, as there were two different flatheads. The 59 series was in the last year, cars only. Trucks got the new 8BA, labeled 8RT for trucks. It appears you have the car pump, 59 series (not sure of parts number), as opposed to the correct 8BA style.
If you want to be really correct, get one with the 1/4" fittings. Later in 51-52, the same pump was cast with 1/8" ports, then necked up to 1/4". You can find a core on the 'bay, swap meet, buddy, etc and rebuild it. Look for the AC flavor. Cowboy John, Now and Then Auto, 3rd Gen parts have kits, or send it to someone to rebuild.

Look at pics from this ebay ad. You can see 59 and 8ba pumps look very similar, other than mounting flange, as you discovered. If I could ever get my junk set up I would clean up, chromate, plate and send you off a core to rebuild. About given up on finding black pipe fittings for air lines that do not crack.

It's obvious that you have a fuel pump used on '48 passenger vehicles not on '48 pickup trucks.
Last I know, NAPA had both available.

Re: 48 ford flathead v8 truck fuel pump stands
Be easier to get the right pump. Might be a hassle getting a fuel pump rod to work with that set up. If not worried about originality, go to Napa. If having an original AC pump is important, find one and rebuild it.

Pump pressure is controlled by the push rod length. Fooling around trying to make it work may result in the rod length being out of factory spec. I would just get the correct parts myself.

If your truck has the correct motor....8BA... the stand in photo 1 & 2 is correct. Be sure
you have an 8BA push rod early p/r's much different. I have the correct pumps in stock rebuilt by me and tested. Like has been mentioned the spacer idea is step backwards. Charlie ny [email protected] |

The straight pump adapter looks like the base of the 34-36 without the steel top extension. That is why it fits your early pump.
