Default How to read a 1950 F1 VIN Plate off the firewall?

Trying to determine, if possible, the original color of my 1950 F1 pickup from the stampings on the firewall. It reads: 98RC260870 A TL.
Then next to the right of the plate are numbers/letter stamped directly on the firewall 512K1793.

Any help would be apprieciated

THANKS!

If you can pull the vin plate off you may find the orig color under it. When I restored my 45 truck it was the only place I found good paint.

Keep searching on Google and you will eventually find a site that can break down the VIN. or see if the EFV8 club has an official restoration book......Mark

When I purchased my 48 F1 I found the original color inside the cab and on the firewall. It was grey. Now it's the original red offered in the year. Pick something that you like and go with that.

Prior to 51, those firewall codes were harder to decipher.
This discussion was a good one. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/42...ut-off-47.html
There are a few here on the Barn too. Some of the guys that responded on that forum also respond here as well.

They're pretty easy:
9 - 49 or 50 and your's is close to the cutoff, it was probably a '49 but sold and titled in 50 (if you're sure of the title)
8R - 239 flathead V8
C - half ton pickup
260870 - actual serial number assigned to the truck
ATL - Atlanta assembly plant

Firewall:
5 - Sheridan Blue exterior color
12K - produced October 12, 1949 (at the time Ford was using the calendar year as model year for trucks)
1793 - vehicle down the line (doesn't really have much meaning that we have been able to determine)

Hope this helps!
Tim
