Question U-Joint Inner Cap

I'm about to bolt my U-Joint Housings to my torque tube. Lo and behold, my Inner Cap Type 2a has unequally spaced holes while my Caps are

A-4517-B2 (upper) and A-4514-B2 (lower) with equally spaced holes. I remember now that when I dismantled these 5 years ago that there were only four bolts used instead of six. It didn't seem to cause problems before, but now that I am putting everything back together with the parts I have, I have to choose in which orientation to place the Inner Cap. With the lubrication holes in the 9 and 3 positions, I would have three bolts on the top half or three bolts on the bottom half, with only one bolt on the opposite half.
I am inclined to put three bolts on the bottom half. What do you think?

Well...You asked for it...Call Bert's and get the RIGHT Inner Cap and be done with it!

Rather than pull the reared and ujoint to replace the inner torque adapter, why not order from Berts the uneven holes upper and lower torque tube clamps and just bolt them on?

Good plan. I should have gotten started with this earlier.....they are only open until noon on Saturdays. I'll email them. In the meantime, I will get my transmission and U-joint lined up and ready to slide on the driveline splines. If I can get the proper inner cap we will be ready to go. Thanks.

The holes on the transmission case are evenly spaced, so the only thing I need to change is the inner cap. I have the motor out of the car and will install it after the transmission and bell housing are in. I pulled and replaced the motor once when I was in Alaska, and had no problem installing it after the transmission and bell housing were in. I sure appreciate everyone in here responding so quickly. Cheers!

If you are the picky type then you might want to review this document:

If not...that is OK to I guess.

Boy, I thought these cars were so simple. Now I am not quite so sure.

The Model A Ford is a simple machine......but the best part is having at our disposal 90 plus years of experience with it. The guys and gals in this forum and others are incredibly helpful. There probably isn't a single problem that hasn't been encountered over the past 90 years that doesn't have someone who figured out how to overcome it.

The uneven spaced one is from early 1928's.

Well! It turns out that my U-joint upper cap also had uneven holes (I forgot to figure out that the early one with the lip on top was uneven spaced.) So....back to Bert's and got the correct upper cap. All is well......I even got the motor back in today. I am learning as I go and enjoying the challenge.
