That Model of Ford was named after the Tudor dynasty, or House of Tudor, which was a European royal house of Welsh origin. Lots of info on the internet.

I belive it was simply a contraction of Two Doors: Tudor. Like the Fordor: Four Doors.

It was a marketing ploy. Manufacturers had pet names for different body styles. The model T touring car became a phaeton on the model A. It sound better. The tudor and fordor were marketing terms designed to stick in the minds of the public. Some manufacturers called the 2 door a coach. Closed cars were called sedans, and still are. The terms phaeton, sedan, coach, etc are from the horse drawn era, which was still in the memory of many buyers. Tudor and fordor are a step removed from the horse days.

Worked on a Volvo with an electrical problem once, it had a "TUDOR" brand battery in a "FORDOR" car! Bill W.

My 1932 Ford 5 window coupe that I purchased 35 plus years ago was titled as a Tudor in body style. I purchased this 32 coupe from the original first owners son. The was purchased & titled originally in the state of Texas. It just means that the car is a 2 door and recognized as such using basic terms. I seen another original 1st issued title that in body style was printed Tudor on it and it was a 1936 Ford 5 window 2 door coupe. There are 2 door convertibles and Roadsters that are called Tudors also. Simply put Tudor = 2 doors.

At the MA registry all tudors are called coupes and fodors are called sedans.

Yes, these terms were coined by ford

Just as many early chevy sedans with two doors were known as "coach".
every company used their own "terms". Part of marketing.
you will never see a chevy title that states-tudor................

Now if you spell that backwards it is "Rod ut". Rodders secretly like the Tudor almost more than the coupe or roadster.

Tudor is pronounced 'tewdor' not 'toodoor'. It is the name of an English royal family from older times.
