Re: Generator
Did you polarize the generator?

Re: Generator
Simply apply battery voltage to the output stud on the generator to polarize it.
The easiest way to do this is to jump a short wire across the two cutout terminals. |

Re: Generator
One more thought, since you have a diode cutout, if the battery is installed with the wrong ground polarity you will have no output, even if you polarize the generator. Also the battery would be connected to the generator at all times and the generator would soon overheat. Hopefully you have a positive ground battery and the correct polarity diode cutout for it.

Re: Generator
Will your generator "motor" when you hook it up to a battery? A gen. that is working properly will run slowly, just like a dc motor when you hook it up to a battery. It should be smooth... and should draw around 6-7 amps. If it will not do this then will need to go back and check things again. Did you growl the armature?

Hi just thinking, did you turn down the commutator and run in the brushes.

Sometimes the cutout contacts are dirty and don't pass the current, even they they close. Actually, it's best to check both places and compare the readings. There should be less than .1 volt difference. |
