Default Front axle spindle nut adjustment

Without adding to agreements & disagreements, & past comments, as far as front axle bearing adjustments with pre-load, no pre-load, how loose, how tight etc.; this information below may or may not assist one in adjusting & tightening the nuts on Model A front wheel bearings.

Many in the past have always noticed that just when one "thinks", or "feels" that their front wheel bearings are set perfectly, the castellated nut is most often in a position where the cotter pin "cannot" be inserted.

Remedies offered often were to place the back side of the axle nut on a belt sander, filing the backside of the nut, set more loose than tight, more tight than loose; however, with Ford's design of 16 threads per inch, it used to be a lot easier with Ford's original axle nuts with eight (8) slots in lieu of the many modern castellated nuts with only six (6) slots offered by "some" Model A vendors.

If anyone is about to change, adjust, or re-inspect front wheel bearings, it may be a good idea to buy eight (8) slot nuts for a much more accurate way to obtain tightness of their liking.

Have no idea who else has original (8) slot nuts, but "Mac's" has them.

Maybe someone will list other sources for original (8) slot castellated nuts; but, just trying to get Model A's, & keep Model A's on the road & let Model A owners know that this Forum is mainly to assist Model A owners.
