Default 21 stud head gaskets thickness

I did a search but did'nt turn anything up.

Does anyone know if a thicker than stock 21 stud head gasket can be sourced? Something around .070-.080" uncrushed or crush down to .060"

I know about thee Best copper gaskets but have no idea what they typically crush down to..... http://www.vintagegasket.com/hegaco50.html

My stock pair/NOS/asbestos gaskets mic out at .060" new/unused and I believe they will crush down to around .050" ??

Thx

BFD

I have some steel sandwich ones in my pile of gaskets, they sure look thicker than either the best gasket grey ones and the copper ones .
Let me know if you want me to measure them.

Do you have some clearance problem? Moving the head away from the block will help clearance for sure. But it hurts on throttle response, economy and power. As it also moves the head away from the piston.
Just a reminder to keep you on the path.
Martin.

Yep Martin, I'm shooting for around no less than .035" quench so looking to fine tune with crushed gasket thickness. I usually run em to that clearance with steel rods and non hi rpm. The engine will not be turned to the moon.

Looking to get a tight quench and max turbulence/am travel/efficiency.

Lawrie if you can mic up the copper/sandwich gaskets that would be awesome mate thanks !! Do you know the brand / part No and did you get them locally ?

Yes Martin for the time being.

Later on I will be doing a NA build later with a 4" arm/H beams/steel caps like I did with the blown 8BA.

Just gonna make it more efficient and bump the CR a bit with the cam swap.

Lawrie thank YOU for helping out !!

Not sure I actually helped, ment to, but you know what your doing mate.
Sounds like a nice little engine. I'v got a similar pilot engine in my truck. Ports cleaned up and guide bumps removed, and the side of the guide that's next to it. Stock size ports at the manifold face, Sharp bits radiused in the combustion chambers. Exhaust ports opened up at the tapered guide, stupid right angle turn at the end of the end ports angled to smooth the flow. Detail on the valve seats, valves and block. Got a stock cam in it at the moment, for testing stuff. Got a Harmon and Collins 3/4 And a Clay Smith 282-2. One of them will end up in their. Heads cut for real tight piston clearance. Weird coincidence I shot for 0.035"!!
Gonna play with headers on him aswell. Not they stumpy little buggers, proper full length chaps, around 36-48" maybe even a tad longer, I'll see what it wants.
Not a racing engine, just a efficiency drive if you like. It may even end up with a stock cam back in it after testing. Running stock intake (port matched) and 94, but gonna play with a 49-50 Merc carb and intake I got here. Gota 52 caddy 4jet but no manifold, like to try him on it too.
I love this stuff.
Martin.

What size bore will 21 stud gaskets clear? I'm building a .100 over and I'm not sure I can use stock 21 gaskets.

Gasket thickness is
Felpro steel sandwich type 7246 .087 not crushed,

best gaskets 507 grey material .056 crushed

best gaskets copper .054 crushed

hope this helps.
