Default How to install fog lights on a '48??

I brought my '48 super deluxe tudor sedan home last weekend and am working on getting her road worthy after her 32 year hibernation in an airplane hanger. She runs, but I'm rebuilding the brake and fuel systems and cleaning up the wiring. All that stuff is straight forward, and if I have a question I can find an answer with a little searching, BUT the one thing I can't find is how to mount my super kewl Yankee fog lights?? The have the brackets for mounting to the bumper brackets, but do I really have to drill holes in my nice original sheet metal panel behind the bumper? I want the fog lights and I've seen some REALLY nice cars with them installed, but there is never a decent picture up close of the lights. Is there a trick I'm missing? Do guys just remove the panel behind the bumper to run the lights, or do they really drill holes? I just want to make sure I don't do something stupid without asking first. Thanks.

I have a 48 super deluxe coupe with fog lights up front mounted through a hole on the splash pan and mounted to bracket that is attached to the bumper support, see photos.

That's it, even with the stock bumper arm clamp.

I sure hated to drill through my splash pan but had to have the fog lights. It's the only way to mount them. Gotta be committed to them for the long haul.

Perfect! I just wanted to make sure before I drilled holes in the splash pan. Thanks everyone!

If you don't really want to drill holes in the splash pan, I would think you could build a pair of very simple brackets, simply by carefully bending-up some 1/8" X 1-1/2" steel strap that would bolt to a bumper bracket, and pass upward, BETWEEN the bumper and the splash pan. Use 1-1/2" wide cardboard to mock it up. Heck, you could probably even mount each bracket to the inboard bumper bolt on each side. Just takes a smidgeon of imagination to make it work. DD
