Default Marvel Carb fuel bowl insert

Curious as to what the spring-loaded device does in the fuel bowl. Will the carb function without it?

Your Carb doesn't look like a Model A Marvel.

I would post more but cannot navigate the required album steps. Tried to upload the photos and the system will not take them. I got the first image uploaded but got so angry in the process that I almost gave up at that point. Not user friendly!

I remember installing the carb with the captioned insert in it as a backup carb in the past. It worked okay. Thanks for the interest you have shown me on this.

Peyton, If I can't upload a photo I email it to myself at a smaller size. That usually does the trick. Not hard once you figure it out.

Agree with Y-blockhead, that is an accelerator pump.

Does your carb look like the picture posted by Y-Blockhead? Your float bowl looks like a different shape.

Yes, it’s an exact match. The Marvel might have been made to fit other car makes with some mods depending on the make. The insert might be an accelerator pump, two my carbs have the device and one doesn’t.

Someone might be more familiar than I with the Marvel. I just love Model A era carbs.

The photo thing is scarry to me --- I don't understand all the jargon -- thumbnails and such. In the post preview, the "thumbnail" photos are separate from the message section. Well anyway, it worked.

The carb has a partial Zenith GAV but did work well.

The white thing under the carb is a phone to prop it up to prevent glare.

Could it be a power valve ?

Yes, but I wonder if the carb can function without it.

I wonder if you have a miss match carb, the bottom from another model of Marvel? I don't see any way the accelerator/power valve is actuated.

Maybe the hole into the carb by the throttle foot had a plunger/linkage that pushed the valve.

That hole is where the gas came pouring out when the float was stuck open on my Marvel....a little 'rap' with a stick on the bowl fixed that problem! I like the size and simplicity of the Marvel.
