Is that something along the line of the 4th in the U.S. or something completely different?

Were they still just making silent films down under in 47? I couldn't get a peep.

Cheers mate!
It seems we are not a very patriotic lot. Hardly anyone drives around with flags on their cars or out the front of their house anymore, went to the shops yesterday and in the whole shopping centre I saw two cars with flags pfft! I'm sure this started when some nut from the university said those that have flags from their cars are more likely to be racist..??

From Wikipedia:

Australia Day is the official National Day of Australia. Celebrated annually on 26 January, it marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Port Jackson, New South Wales, and the raising of the Flag of Great Britain at Sydney Cove by Governor Arthur Phillip.

This is the equivalent of the USA Columbus day. Australia will be economic rock stars if/when it breaks free from the crown and truly celebrates an independence day.

Thank you for you well wishes .Had a good day, usual BBQ , beer in and out of pool. A little sad though my father in law has a terminal brain tumour and each time I see him he gets worse and he hasn't even started his treatment yet..

A belated wish of good holiday, to a good nation. Always have appreciated the attitude of Australians I've met with, and of course the flathead specialists of The Barn.

Talkwrench, use the time you can to communicate your feelings. Its never easy, it only gets tougher.

Happy Australia Day. Good friends are hard to find these days. I have only visited once but it was very memorable.

Australia does its own thing mate....the " Crown" is just a token figurehead and has no detrimental effect on the economy......virtually every family in Britain has relatives in Oz.

Hope you had a great Birthday down under.
