1931 rumble seat step pad question.
Were the original step pads steel.cast iron or aluminum? If they were not aluminum were they painted black like fenders or silver color? Than You.

I too have been wondering this because I have seen sellers advertise them as both. I checked the judging standards and my copy mentions that "Beginning in mid 1929, the step plates were black enameled, round, cast iron." It appears that production started with aluminum, went to cast iron, then back to aluminum.

Beginning in October 1929, through the end of production the side step was changed to unpainted die cast aluminum with a cadmium plated carriage bolt. The raven finished flat washer, lock washer and hex nut continued to be used under the fender.
