What is this?

Today I found a 3 brush generator with some interesting apparatus attached. In addition to the regular cutout, there is a 'magic box'. The wire coming out of generator, that normally attaches to the cutout, is instead connected to one side of said magic box...removing cover of the box reveals that this connection runs through a heavy wire wound cylinder, then paralleled with a smaller, black cylinder/suppressor? when it exits the box, then running through a shielded cable to the cutout....
What is it/what does it do?

There is also a big condensor/radio suppressor attached to side of generator, but the pigtail is not connected to anything.

Is that an early model flux capacitor?

WW2 military stuff had all kinds of gizmos to make the radios work. That would explain the condenser, but the big coil does not fit the picture. resistor of some sort, but why?

Strewth Will, of course!! I should've known that....I know those things are rare as.....wow!! I'm rich!!
cas, yeah, the shielded output wire could certainly have some sort of relevance to radio suppression maybe, I'd have thought a regular suppressor, like the disconnected one would suffice?

Whatever it is (probably noise suppression), it is a big ugly sucker! LOL
