Whats the best way to sell a model a
I'm going to be getting my 1931 deluxe roadster out of storage next month and was looking to sell it. From some of your guys experience what is the best way to sell a car, model a websites, Ebay, magazines or locally? It's not a show car just a driver so not looking for a auction company or anything like that. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Keith janosky

We have had really good luck with Hemmings.
Price it right, many good pictures, plus tell people about car, what has been done, when, by whom. Price and pictures important. Good luck. |

I would use ebay. Huge mkt place and only 125. to sell it.
Hemmings has a far more limited audience. Craigslist is also good, if you price it fairly and no cost to you. |

I just used MAFCA to initiate a trade and I think I have bought two and sold two over the years with their free ads. They run three months free for members, up to three ads per year. I have purchased and sold parts on their site and I believe I have been well served.

Put your car outside (or a friends/family house on a busy road) with a for sale sign.
People who are maybe not interesting to buy will know someone who is and will spread the word. Cost you nothing. On internet : the price has to be right (read : cheaper then somewhere else) or you need to have something better than the others. Sellers are comparing too much. |

Just remember, cash only. Weed out the scammers. The best way to do this is just tell everybody, “Show up at my residence or where ever the car is with cash in hand, and I’ll turn over the title and car when I receive the cash.

I found my 29 right here on the Barn. It wasn't listed in the swap meet, but a friend of the seller started a thread in the Model A forum (thanks again Denis4X4). I watched most of the normal sites, and still do. Good pricing, LOTS of good photos, and an accurate, honest description are keys to a sale. I'm frustrated by the listings with one or two photos. Makes me wonder if its a scam. Unless your in a big hurry, be patient. I still see cars listed that were for sale a year ago.

Re: Whats the best way to sell a model a
There are quite a few sales venues available which others have mentioned. What it comes down to is how the appearance of the car and its body style affect the buyer. I have past professional experience in antique Ford sales. An overpriced car does not draw folks to come and see it. A car that looks like it did when new has more appeal than a car with too many accessories. In my experience cars that are "plain Jane" in appearance have the greatest appeal as buyers like to add accessories of their own choice. Too many accessories can reduce value rather than enhance value. If advertising the car emphasis is best placed on its mechanical condition and dependability unless it is a restoration project car.

For what it is worth I recently advertised my 1965 Mustang on Craigslist and Hemmings.
Lots of tire kickers and low-ballers on CL. Hemmings drew serious and knowledgeable buyers. The Stang went to a local family who responded to the CL ad in a week, brought cash and will be a refurb by a father/son. Win-Win!

Best way I found is that you sell it real cheap to me, I'll take real good care of it.
This method seems to work best for me.

Re: Whats the best way to sell a model a
As 3.6rs suggested, put it outside on a busy street with a for sale sign on it. That's the way I bought mine. I wound up beating another individual to buying it. That car with its sign on it generated a lot of interest. It's not something you see every day.

I had the same experience as Magicbox51, sold two antique Fords by placing them uptown with a For Sale sign got good results.
Only regret is, I wish to heck I had never sold them. I want them back they both had sentimental value. Think long and hard before you do this. |

A Friend hung around the Clubhouse at a swanky Golf Course for a couple of days & sold his Model A for CASH!

Re: Whats the best way to sell a model a
If you decide to sell it online, post as many high quality pictures as you can. Also make sure that the first picture that appears on your ad is a picture that shows the overall car. This is the first picture to grab peoples attention. It never ceases to amaze me how many people will only post one crappy picture of their car in an effort to sell it. Good luck with the sale.

Don't forget to just drive it to the local shows and put a for sale sign on it.

Re: Whats the best way to sell a model a
Another good way, if not the best, is selling your A for less than half the value price.
Buyer happy and quick sale for the seller. |
