Default California License Plates?

I have a set of 31 California license plates that need to be painted. Does anyone have a good source for the yellow/gold color? Not sure what to use there. Thanks!

Try some One Shot oil based striping enamel and mix your own, using white, yellow and perhaps some other colors to tint. Available from art supply store chains, on line, etc.

If it the same as NY, rustoleum farm equipment yellow is the golden yellow check against a school bus as well.

What are the laws in CA for repainted plates?

From the California License Plate Data (1914–1972)–Appendix 1E

"May be restored/painted but cannot deviate from the original colors or
configurations."

And

"1931 Black Orange" for the color scheme

I had a set that were heavily pitted from rust but not rotted out. I sandblasted them clean, powder coated them black (which for the most part filled in the pitting) and hand painted the letters "Caterpillar Orange" (because I had access to it) and they turned out really good. The DMV had no problem with them. I ended up selling them because somewhere along the line the DMV thinks my car is a 32 so I had to use 32 plates.

Here's a link to the plates I sold so you can see how they turned out with Caterpillar Orange https://fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72206

When I bought YOM plates for my Town Sedan, here in California, I took them to our local DMV, and they got out a book, and looked up specs on the 1930 Calif. plates, then compared to mine. I watched him, and he actually measured the length and width, then checked them color....finally said they were fine. Oh, they also need to check that the number on the plates is still good....

Is there enough of the original paint left that you could sand off the top and polish the lower layer? Then you could take it to a paint store for a computer match. I may have a plate that could be used for a match if you don't, PM me.

After the plate is painted the numbers are easily painted with a small foam roller.

Thanks everyone for the ideas! I may have to test the foam roller, that one is interesting.

Roll the roller in the paint. Then roll it on something smooth to get excess paint off of it. Then roll the plate.
