I think you mean "ADDS the stretch". In some applications bolts are torqued to a specific stretch measurement rather than torque measurement. I believe that in the case of a properly "blue printed" engine, things like the rod bolts are torqued to a specific bolt stretch measurement rather than just a torque measurement.

I use nothing except oil-can oil to lube the threads.

I’ve only been doing this since 1954, so take what I say with a gtain of salt.
I NEVER use castle nuts on rods anymore. Haven’t for many years.
I’ve worked on engines in Mercedes shops, BMW shops and Nilsson, Land Rover, Porsche, Ford, you name it.
I don’t see lock nuts on the rods or mains of any cars or trucks.
I also don’t put the pal nuts back on or use Loctite on the rod nuts.
That stuff is only to impress the owner.
How often does he pull the pan to admire the special 12 sided nuts? Good one Chuck!
